The civil society Action Committee, a global self-organized advocacy group of non-governmental networks working together in preparation for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly Summit on Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants, has disseminated last week a set of baseline recommendations to the UN Member States as they begin discussing possible outcomes for the Summit.

The United Nations summit, taking place on 19 September 2016, will represent a unique opportunity for a global and comprehensive debate on crucial migration policy issues, bringing together some 150 heads of government to talk about solutions and commitments for the major migration and refugee challenges of today.

The Action Committee is convened by ICMC, the International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA), and the NGO Committee on Migration in New York. It comprises 22 networks and organizations from around the world, some half of whom work in refugee protection and half on migrant rights, including Amnesty International, CARE International, Caritas Internationalis, the Global Coalition on Migration, Migrant Forum in Asia, Oxfam, Save the Children, the Scalabrini International Migrant Network, and Terre des Hommes.

The recommendations were drafted in consultation with the Action Committee members and reflect input from about 140 civil society organizations around the world who submitted key messages through a survey or through their applications to participate in Summit.
