Determining the Best Interest of Vulnerable Refugee Children
Bharat Gautam is a child protection expert for the ICMC Deployment Scheme. He interviews children who have fled their countries unaccompanied or have been separated from their parents along the journey. He determines the best option for their well-being; resettlement to a third country, reunification with family members, local integration, or return to their country of origin. “Most unaccompanied and separated children have gone through traumatic experiences” from which they still suffer, he explains.
