ICMC Secretary General Speaks of Elderly Refugees’ Health During United Nations Event

ICMC’s Secretary General Msgr. Robert J. Vitillo delivered a speech concerning the link between migration and health last Thursday during a United Nations side event hosted by the Permanent Missions of Sri Lanka and Italy, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Msgr. Vitillo’s speech focused on the health needs of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, especially delving into a study conducted by the Caritas Lebanon Migrant Center and Johns Hopkins University in partnership with ICMC and tackling the health condition of elderly refugees. The study, which involved around 100 Syrian and 700 Palestinian refugees, found that health and mental health concerns are paramount within these groups and highlight the need for additional efforts and resources by the international community.
