Refugee Protection and Human Trafficking – Linked event to the Global Refugee Forum 2023
December 11, 2023
12:00 pm
— 2:00 pm
Timezone: Europe/Berlin
Venue
Palais des Nations, Room VII
Geneva, Switzerland.
With unprecedented levels of displacement, increasing numbers of displaced and stateless people are facing poverty, discrimination, and marginalization, leaving them vulnerable to human trafficking. Difficulties in receiving international protection and lack of effective protection and solutions for refugees further increase the risks of trafficking by forcing people into precarious and exploitative situations.
The Global Refugee Forum 2023 provides a unique opportunity for more solidarity sharing and enhanced access to protection and solutions for refugees who are victims of trafficking or at risk of being trafficked. States, civil society, international organizations and others will convene to shed light on these dynamics and promote the Multistakeholder Pledge: Protection for refugees and migrants at risk of or affected by trafficking in persons, which is led by the UN Special Rapporteur on Trafficking in persons, especially women and children, with the support of UNHCR, ILO, IOM and UNODC.
