Facilitating Refugee Resettlement
The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) operates the Resettlement Support Center (RSC) in Istanbul, facilitating the resettlement process for refugees to the U.S.
The process begins when cases for resettlement are referred by UNHCR to ICMC. RSC officers then meet with the applicants for a pre-screening interview, during which they create detailed case files containing biographic data and necessary documentation. Officers from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services then conduct interviews, and the RSC informs refugees of the results.
Approved refugees undergo medical screenings and participate in a 3-day cultural orientation to prepare for life in the U.S. Once all checks are cleared, the RSC collaborates with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to arrange travel logistics, including securing exit permits and conducting final medical checks.
Finally, the refugees depart for the U.S., where they are welcomed by resettlement agencies or private sponsors.
