Small towns can be places of welcome and hospitality, where refugees are not anonymous newcomers, but can quickly become part of the community. A new study conducted by Matthieu Tardis for the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), in collaboration with the ICMC Europe-led SHARE Network highlights the positive developments of refugee resettlement in small towns in rural France. Many of the challenges faced by newcomers, the study points out, are shared by residents of rural areas: lack of public transportation and access to healthcare are among them.
