On the occasion of the World Humanitarian Summit, which took place on 23-24 May in Istanbul (Turkey), ICMC’s Secretary General Johan Ketelers shared his thoughts on the current state and the potential future developments of the humanitarian system.

Humanitarian action, Ketelers points out, has over the past decades grown to deliver an impressive picture of global solidarity responding to urgent needs, moving important resources and impacting on the lives of millions. Yet, much more can be done to build durable, adequate, and flexible response mechanisms in emergency situations, especially through the involvement of civil society, local authorities and the private sector.

WHAT WE DO

ICMC provides assistance and protection to vulnerable people on the move and advocates for sustainable solutions for refugees and migrants.
