ICMC Statement on the Humanitarian Crisis in Lebanon
As of 1 October, an unprecedented humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Lebanon, as war causes immense suffering and the massive displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, forced to flee their homes and communities.
The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) expresses deep concern over this humanitarian situation that dramatically impacts the lives of people – including many refugees – already lacking basic means of subsistence, after years of a devastating economic crisis.
As the ICMC team in Lebanon continues to support refugees, we are actively planning for ways to assist those affected by the current war – by joining the broader Catholic emergency response – on shelter, basic needs and emergency psychosocial support.
ICMC echoes Pope Francis’ call for the international community to “make every effort to stop this terrible escalation.”
