ICMC Supports Over 2,400 Syrian and Jordanian Families During the Winter Season

ICMC's winterization activities 2016-2017: an infographic

The winter season constitutes a challenge for the 656,000 Syrian refugees registered in Jordan, as well as vulnerable Jordanians who lack the appropriate resources to face the cold weather.

28% of Syrian refugees live in substandard shelters, with broken windows, zinc roof, or incomplete buildings, meaning they are exposed to the strong winds, heavy rains, and sometimes, snow storms. For vulnerable Jordanian families, the winter season also constitutes a challenge, as they do not possess the financial means to procure essential items to keep warm or make reparations in their shelters.

In this context, in December and January, ICMC has supported 2,435 vulnerable Syrian refugees and Jordanian households living in Irbid and Mafraq with unconditional cash assistance to ensure a basic level of warmth during the winter season, with the financial support from BPRM, OCHA and ECHO.
