Raphaelle Goyet, Operations Officer at ICMC Geneva

Raphaëlle Goyet is an Operations Officer at ICMC’s Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. She spent several years in the field as an ICMC Resettlement Deployment Scheme staff member, working in collaboration with the United Nations’ High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Uganda, Sudan, and Iraq. Currently, she oversees the implementation of ICMC’s programs in Pakistan and Syria.

The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) published today its Annual Report 2015, together with the Consolidated Financial Statements and Performance Report 2015. The Annual Report 2015 highlights ICMC’s activities and achievements during the past year, which witnessed a number of dramatic developments in migration and refugee movements, particularly from the Middle East.

As Program Manager, Shahan facilitates and assists in the development and implementation of all ICMC’s activities in Pakistan. With programs in several districts, ICMC provides assistance to refugees and other vulnerable individuals through several projects aimed at protecting survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGVB), improving livelihoods, and rehabilitating governmental schools.

ICMC Launches Audio Tool to Raise Awareness About Gender-Based Violence in Malaysia

On 15 January, ICMC Malaysia presented to local partners and to UNHCR’s staff a new audio tool which aims to improve the reach of awareness-raising activities among the local Rohingya refugees. Saved in a small MP3 player, the audio file is to be distributed to the refugees, who will be able to access the recording whenever desired.

ICMC Renews Its Call for a Global Response to Address the Current Refugee Crisis in Europe

At the 106th Council Meeting of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which was held in Geneva from 24 to 27 November and which brought together 162 governmental members as well as representatives from United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations, ICMC highlighted once again the need for a global response to address the current refugee crisis in Europe.

A Refugee From Ethiopia Stranded on a Boat in the Mediterranean

Abu Kurke Kabeto is a young man from the Oromo region of Ethiopia. He currently lives in the Netherlands with his wife and his two years-old child. Escaping from discrimination and repression against Oromo people in his country, Abu Kurke left Ethiopia in 2008 and went to Sudan. Through the Sahara desert he then reached Libya in 2009. In 2011, he crossed the Mediterranean in search of a better life in Europe: he spent two weeks stranded at sea, without food or water.

Jason, Best Interest Determination Specialist in Shire, Ethiopia

Jason Bell is a child protection expert working within the framework of the ICMC-UNHCR Resettlement Deployment Scheme. Originally from the United States, Jason has been working with refugees since 2003, in reception facilities in the United States, as well as in Malawi and Kenya. Jason has joined ICMC as a Best Interest Determination Specialist in 2011. He is currently based in the UNHCR sub-office in Shire, Ethiopia.
