Promotion of resettlement in the European Union through practical cooperation by EU Member States and other stakeholders

Together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), ICMC has begun a new project intended to promote refugee resettlement in Europe by strengthening the engagement of European Union Member States
The fifteen-month project is financed by the European Commission and is jointly implemented by ICMC, IOM and UNHCR. Participating countries include Belgium, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, the United Kingdom, Slovakia and Sweden.
The project will be officially launched in Timisoara, Romania in early March 2010, when resettlement and integration officials of the participating Member States, NGOs and representatives of the European Commission, IOM and UNHCR will meet for a briefing on the purposes and objectives of the new initiative. Workshops on specific topics such as beneficiary selection, pre-departure activities, logistical cooperation and reception and integration will also be held.

BRUSSELS, 10 June 2011 - On Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th of June the final conference of the project "Promotion of Resettlement in the European Union through Practical Cooperation by EU Member States and Other Stakeholders" took place in Brussels. The event marked the conclusion of an 18-month project carried out by the International Organization for Migration, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Catholic Migration Commission with funding from the European Commission's European Refugee Fund that has generated a wealth of information on resettlement practices in Europe.Read more
This innovative publication provides practical ideas and inspiration for facilitating integration once refugees have arrived in their country of resettlement. It comes as the fruit of an 18-month project that linked European actors from the full spectrum of the refugee resettlement process for greater cooperation on related initiatives, with funding from the European Commission's European Refugee Fund.Read more
